Anonymous appear to have compromised the security of a popular but unofficial forum called UKPoliceonline.co.uk (Owned by The NSI Group) used by police to exchange information. It then went ahead asking for the police to “stand with us, not against us”.
The fault according to the forum owners appears to be due to a bug in PHP allowing an exploit in the Invision Power Board software.
We are currently looking into the issue of members getting ‘Jubilee’ spam emails and need your assistance.
Earlier this year there was a vulnerability in PHP that caused a loophole within Invision Power Board – we shut the site down while we waited for Invision to supply us with a fix.
Since then, we have introduced many security measures to assist in forum security.
We are aware that at some point, either earlier this year or in an incident about a week ago some email data
appears to have been obtained by a third party and then spam emails sent out to those email addresses. The
first step in our investigation is to establish on what date this took place.
We are asking if you could please PM me if you joined the site after 1st July 2012 and have received this spam
email. Could you also let me know if you have joined any other of our network of sites with the same email
address (our network includes: www.policespecials.com, www.policeoracle.com, www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk,
Be assured that we take security extremely seriously and are working very hard to get to the bottom of this.
We will keep you updated, thanks in advance for your help.
