11 of the best tech video podcasts worth watching to be considered a true geek
… and annoy the heck out of your ISP.
The following is a list of some of my favourite video technology shows out there.
Cranky Geeks
Presented by John C. Dvorak, Cranky Geeks provides a look into some of the news stories affecting the technology and computing industry. I’m not a fan of John C. Dvorak’s hosting technique (or lack of it) so it’s good to see the guest Cranky Geeks putting him in his place.
Availability: Weekly.
Diggnation
If you’re a fan of Digg you’re already watching Diggnation. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht provide a look into some of the top user submitted stories on digg.com (Hmm that sounds familiar). Good laughs are to be had along the way as you watch them getting drunk and trying to tell us what’s been happening out there. Worth watching for Kevin Rose’s “No sh** Sherlock” predictions on the future of everything.
Availability: Weekly.
Tekzilla
A formidable tag team in the world of tech showiness are Patrick Norton and Veronica Belmont. Together they present an hour long show that provides a mix of user submitted questions, product reviews and how to guides. Everything you could want, no wonder this is the most popular show by Revision3.
Availability: Weekly show plus daily tech tip show.
The Digg Reel
Andrew Bancroft presents a showcase some of the top videos on digg.com. It’s like having your own personal youtube filter\slave. Only annoyance I find is that some really long videos are included whole in the show but I suppose someone loves it.
Availability: Weekly show.
Wallstrip
Come on, surely that’s the best title for a show ever? Even more so when I tell you Wallstrip isn’t a tech show but a five minute show that highlights a company stock worth watching. Twitter was todays business of the day so that’s my excuse for sticking in in here.Julie Alexandria is the host but oft overshadowed by the clever onscreen “slides show” to amuse us with. Worth watching for the Oscar winning acting is todays Wallstrip episode featuring Twitter.
Availability: Daily show with RSS Fee.
The Totally Rad Show
Presented by 3 dudes who have nothing better to do and honestly must love the sound of their own voice to be able to present an hour long show featuring a review of the weeks latest video games, movies, comics and more. Worth watching for the best opening titles for any show listed.
Availability: Weekly show.
Buzz Out Loud
This is one of my favourite shows and the fact it’s lasted 779 episode suggests it’s a favourite of many. It’s not because of the news but the banter between the awesome Molly Wood, Tom Merritt and Jason Howell. They have great little discussions into each of the stories they mention and they do sound like they’ve done their research into each story.
Availability: Weekly or more frequently.
Category5.tv
Category5 is a very techy live phone and technology show hosted by Canadian Robbie Ferguson (because that’s important, right?). Robbie takes a very interactive approach to running the show by talking to his viewers via the chat room whilst on the air. Although the presentation value isn’t up to par with say CNet Live but that’s forgivable because Robbie knows his Windows and Linux stuff in and out and loves to share his knowledge and to top it all of he seems like an all round nice bloke.
Availability: Weekly live interactive show.
CNET Live
Hosted by Tom Merritt and (missing from screenshot) Brian Cooley. It’s another phone in show that also features guests from websites and Internet companies. That Molly Wood gets everywhere.
Availability: Weekly live interactive show.
dl.tv
Hosted by Robert Heron, DL.tv from Ziff Davis is pretty similar to Tekzilla in its contents. Lots of news, product reviews and guides. I still think this show is in love with graphic card news but that might just be me.
Availability: Weekly show.
MobLogic
After this show was recommended to me I had to check out and I’m liking it a lot. It’s a 2 minute “man on the street” format show hosted by Julie Alexander of ex-Wallstrip duties. Julie acts like a social barometer gauging the views of the American public on current affairs.
Availability: Daily show
How to view the video shows
View the videos at the site websites or bring them into one place by using Miro for Windows, Mac and Linux OSes.
